WLFFTA Update

Dear WLFFTA Friends,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Carol Schuyler for her service to WLFFTA as Chair and introduce myself to everyone.

Tim Mallory, WLA President, has appointed me interim WLFFTA Chair now that Carol has officially stepped down. Having watched Carol in action for WLA (WLA President, WLFFTA Chair, etc.) for many years, I am pleased to be following her as chair of this important Interest Group.

As a long-time WLA member and active participant, I look forward to the opportunities and challenges of chairing WLFFTA.  I began my involvement with WLA as a CAYAS Board Member. Later, I served as WLA CE Coordinator.  Most recently, I chaired WALT, the Training IG.

As Washington State Library’s CE/Training Coordinator, I work with all levels of library staff and volunteers including Trustees and Friends. I look forward to getting to know more people through my involvement in WLFFTA.

As chair, I have a couple of business items to share.

  • Steering Committee: We are revitalizing the WLFTTA Steering Committee and I am looking for volunteers  to serve on the Steering Committee from Trustees, Friends, Foundations, Advocates and libraries. Please send me an email of interest if you would like to serve on the WLFTTA Steering Committee.  I will try to conduct Steering Committee meetings online or via phone conferencing so that travel will not be a barrier.
  • WLFFTA Listserve: The WLA lists have changed. WLA Listserve addresses (making them even easier to remember) – each is simply {IGNAME}@wla.org.  So if you need to send an email to the WLFFTA listserve, just address it to wlffta@wla.org.
  • Programming: Even though WLA/PNLA 2010 isn’t until August in Victoria, it will soon be time to start planning programs for WLA 2011 in Yakima. Please send me program and presenter ideas for conferences and for our Friends and Foundations Forums. In addition, it has been suggested that we drop the annual WLFFTA Breakfast at the conference in 2010 due to declining interest and increased expenses.  Perhaps there is a better way to gather together WLFFTA members at conferences.

Thank you for your time and please feel free to drop me an email or call me to introduce yourself even if you are not able to volunteer for the Steering Committee or other activities.
