WA Library Friends, Foundations, Trustees & Advocates (WLFFTA)

WLFFTA Bylaws

The membership of Grassroots! and WLFFTA have approved the following Mission Statement and Bylaws for Washington Library Friends, Foundations, Trustees, and Advocates. 

Mission: 

The Washington Library Friends, Foundations, Trustees, and Advocates Interest Group is dedicated to advancing community and statewide support for libraries, encouraging library Friends, trustees, and foundation associates to share ideas and enthusiasm, assisting in their training, linking and organizing library supporters across Washington to effectively address issues impacting libraries, and educating public policy makers on library issues. 

Bylaws:

Article I:  Name.
The name of the organization shall be the Washington Library Friends, Foundations, Trustees, and Advocates (WLFFTA). 

Article II:  Relationship.
The organization is an Interest Group of the Washington Library Association, as authorized by The Washington Library Association Bylaws, Article XIII, Section 3. 

Article III:  Purpose.
The purpose of the Washington Library Friends, Foundations, Trustees, and Advocates shall be to promote libraries and library service; to support the work of Washington library trustees, foundation associates, and Friends of Library groups; to communicate issues of legislative concern and activities of the Association to its membership; and to train Association members to work effectively with their elected officials. 

Article IV:  Membership.
Any member of the Washington Library Association may become a member of the Washington Library Friends, Foundations, Trustees, and Advocates. WLFFTA members may be asked by the Steering Committee chair to serve on or lead any WLFFTA standing subcommittee. WLFFTA members may also be asked by the Steering Committee chair to serve as liaisons to other library organization for WLFFTA.  Members who serve in these positions will be asked to make reports at the regular meetings of the Steering Committee. 

Article V:  Officers.
Officers of the Washington Library Friends, Foundations, Trustees, and Advocates shall be a Chair, a Vice-Chair, and a Secretary.  The Chair shall have the authority to appoint a Treasurer.  Officers shall serve a one-year term.  Officers may be re-elected.  The Chair, as needed, may appoint committees. The Chair shall appoint a member of the Steering Committee as the WLFFTA Representative to the Washington Library Association Board with the approval of the Steering Committee.  The term of office for this representative shall be two (2) years and shall coincide with the term of the WLA President. 

Article VI:  Steering Committee.
The Steering Committee shall be composed of the officers and nine (9) members-at-large elected by the membership, and shall conduct all business pertaining to the Washington Library Friends, Foundations, Trustees, and Advocates.  Steering Committee members shall serve a three (3) year term.  Members may serve two (2) consecutive terms. Steering Committee members who are appointed to complete a partial term may serve two (2) full consecutive terms if nominated by the Steering Committee and approved by the general membership. At any time, honorary Steering Committee members may be selected by majority vote of the current Steering Committee.  The term shall be for two years with full voting rights, but there is no attendance requirement.  Service as an honorary member will not affect eligibility to serve again as a regular member of the Steering Committee in the future.
